Dara Singh began playing pehelwani, a sport he had been urged to play since he was a little child, before even entering the Hindi film industry. In Singapore, he began his wrestling career in 1949. He entered the acting business in 1952. Dara Singh performed in close to 150–200 movies and TV series during the course of his career.

Sangdil: The movie, which was released in 1952, was Dara Singh's debut in Hindi cinema. On Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre, the movie was based.

Mahadev Har Har The 1974 movie, which Chandrakant directed, expanded Dara Singh's resume. With Dara Singh portraying Bhagwan Shiv, this mythical movie was a big success. Padma Khanna and Jayshree Gadkar were also in the movie.

Ajooba: Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, and Rishi Kapoor played the main characters in the 1991 film Ajooba. Maharaja Karan Singh was portrayed by Dara Singh.

The movie, which was released in 1963, was one of many that Dara Singh and Mumtaz collaborated on. Amar was perfectly portrayed by Dara Singh, and this was much praised. A lower-caste man who falls in love with an upper-caste woman is the main character of the movie.
