Digital Desk: Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj stated that two of the three samples submitted for genome sequencing are Omicron instances and one is COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1.

According to a health official, the capital recorded nine new infections today, bringing the total number of current cases to 35. The official also stated that COVID-19 was not the primary cause of death for a 28-year-old man who had comorbidities.

"The individual was just referred to a private hospital; he was not from Delhi. The Covid finding was coincidental, and he had other comorbidities. The man's sample has been sent for genome sequencing, and a report is awaited," according to PTI, the official stated.

In addition to two deaths, Maharashtra reported 87 additional COVID-19 cases today. Between December 14 and December 20, the state recorded 46 cases; however, between December 21 and December 27, up to 267 more cases were discovered. Ten cases of new JN have been reported by the state so far. One variety of Omicron is found in five cities in Thane, two in Pune, one in Akola, and one in each of the districts of Sindhudurg and Pune.

The ministry's COVID bulletin states that in the last 24 hours, the nation has seen five new deaths from the terrible disease: two from Maharashtra and Karnataka and one from Gujarat.
 
Up until December 5, there were only ten or fewer cases every day; however, with the advent of a new JN.1 variety and the cold weather, the number of infections has returned.
