Chennai: The Delta variant of coronavirus can infect both the vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals; however, it reduces the number of mortality among the vaccinated people, a study of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted in Chennai said.
The approval by the Institutional Ethics Committee of ICMR- National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai, hints that the familiarity of B.1.617.2 was not different between both of the vaccinated and unvaccinated classes. Delta variant was the supreme circulating strain and one of the main drivers for India's second wave of SARS-CoV-2.
The report stated, "B.1.617.2 has the ability to infect both the vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. However, the illness seems to be prevented by vaccination."
"The measure and size of vaccination have to be increase to reduce the further waves of the pandemic. Systematic genomic observation must be carried out to track the emergence of new variants and assess their capability to dodge infection/vaccine-induced immunity." It added.
However, INSACOG, the institution responsible for recognizing mutation in Covid-19, stated that the Delta variant was responsible for a breakthrough in infection in fully vaccinated people in the nation.
