Digital Desk:  Local people staged a fierce protest at the Rangamati toll plaza, demanding that tolls not be levied on vehicles from within a 20 km radius. Protesters, numbering around 10,000, emphasized that they are law-abiding citizens seeking their rightful entitlements, stating, “We are not thieves or criminals; we are here to claim what is justly ours.”

According to demonstrators, the administration attempted to issue notices late at night, around 1 am, by breaking the toll gate, which further fueled anger among the locals. In response to the protest, Dergaon and Golaghat police were deployed, and authorities restricted demonstrators to a roadside area about 100 meters from the toll gate.

Heeding administrative appeals for peace during the Republic Day period, protesters agreed to suspend demonstrations from 20th January  to 26th January  and not pay tolls for local vehicles during this period. However, protesters warned that they would resume their agitation with greater intensity at the toll gate if their demands were ignored.
