  • An extensive eviction drive by the Dibrugarh district administration at the Naliapool Ganesh Mandir premises has sparked controversy, with residents and lawyers alleging the operation proceeded despite a court-issued stay order

A large-scale eviction operation carried out by the Dibrugarh district administration on Thursday at the Naliapool Ganesh Mandir (also known as Alokhiya Ganesh Mandir) premises has triggered significant protests and a legal dispute. Affected residents and their legal representatives claim the demolition proceeded despite a valid stay order from a competent court.

District officials, accompanied by personnel from the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) and a substantial contingent of Assam police, utilized bulldozers to dismantle several residential and commercial structures. The administration stated these establishments were illegally constructed on temple land over an extended period. The operation was overseen by East Circle Officer Samujjal Borah.

As the demolition commenced, a tense situation unfolded, with residents vociferously protesting the action. They asserted that they had already challenged the eviction notice in court and had successfully obtained a stay order. According to the residents, officials present at the site were duly informed of the court's directive, yet the eviction continued unabated.

Advocates representing the aggrieved parties arrived at the scene, reiterating the existence of the stay order. They claimed that authorities on the ground allegedly refused to acknowledge or consider the court's instruction, leading to the continuation of the demolition work. The incident has now escalated into a legal confrontation, with the affected individuals seeking further judicial intervention against the administration's actions.
