As a result of their alleged involvement in the crime, 22 university students were expelled.

Digital Desk: The prime accused in the ragging case at Dibrugarh University, Rahul Chetry, has been granted bail.

Rahul Chetry was given bail on Tuesday by a court in Dibrugarh.

Rahul was a former student of the university in the past and was currently enrolled in the third year of a law department at the JB Law College in Guwahati. In December of last year, Rahul was expelled from the law college.

On the other hand, bail was also granted to Simanta Hazarika and Pranjit Boruah.

At the Lekhapani Police Station in Tinsukia, Rahul Chetry handed himself into the police on December 5. Anand Sharma, a first-semester student, jumped off the second floor of the Padmanath Gohain Baruah Hostel on the university campus. His name had come up during inquiries into the circumstances that had led to the occurrence.

The incident was discovered on November 27 and Chetry has reportedly been hiding out ever since.

As a result of their alleged involvement in the crime, 22 university students have been expelled.

While this was going on, Dibrugarh Police detained several students when their identities surfaced during the investigation into the incident. Following the incident, Dibrugarh University administrators rusticated several students, preventing them from enrolling in any other institution of higher learning in the nation for the next three years.
