  • Heavy rainfall in the Karbi Hills has once again caused the Diju River to overflow, triggering renewed flooding in several low-lying areas of Nagaon district's Amoni Revenue Circle, exacerbating the challenges for residents

Guwahati: The Diju River, which demarcates the boundary between Assam's Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts, has once more surged past its banks following incessant heavy rainfall in the Karbi Hills. This overflow has led to a fresh wave of inundation across several low-lying localities, particularly within Nagaon district's Amoni Revenue Circle, compounding the distress of communities still grappling with the aftermath of previous floods.

Reports indicate that villages such as Shiyalekhaiti, Kalapani, and numerous others under the Amoni Revenue Circle are now submerged. Floodwaters have breached residential areas and agricultural lands, severely disrupting daily life and impacting thousands of inhabitants in the affected zones. The recurrence of such a significant flooding event within a mere two-week span has left many families facing repeated displacement and mounting financial losses.

For those whose homes and farmlands suffered damage during the earlier inundation, the rising water levels present another formidable challenge, further limiting access to essential services and resources. The agricultural sector, a cornerstone of local livelihoods, has also sustained a severe blow. Extensive tracts of cropland remain submerged, fueling farmers' fears of substantial crop losses and raising grave concerns about the long-term economic stability of these flood-hit areas.

As rainfall persists in the upstream regions, the situation remains precarious, with local authorities and residents bracing for potential further worsening of the flood conditions.
