Guwahati: Amid the ongoing Assam government’s campaign against corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a junior engineer of Public Works Department (PWD), (Buildings), Rangia subdivision in a bribery case.


The arrested one identified as Bijoy Das has been caught red-handed by a team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption while taking a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant on Friday.


As per the police report, after receiving a complaint about Das’s alleged demand for bribes the team laid a trap after which he was caught red-handed in front of the PWD (building) office, Ganesh Mandir Dispur.

The complainant claimed that Das had demanded Rs. 20,000 from him for issuing NOC to set up a petrol pump in the Kamrup district.


A case has been registered in Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station vide ACB PS case No. 12/2021U/S 7(a)/13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act against him.


According to the report, the accused has been brought to the ACB police station for further interrogation.


It is a developmental story; further investigation is under process.
