Digital Desk: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained a scientist working for the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for giving Pakistani agents critical information, informs sources.

An ATS official claimed that the scientist was in contact with a "Pakistan Intelligence Operative" agent via video conversations and WhatsApp.

He continued, "It was a honeytrap situation."

The suspect, who worked in a top defence research centre, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

According to an ATS release, "the scientist provided the details to the enemy country by abusing his position and knowing that the official's secrets in his possession if obtained by the enemy country, can pose a threat to the security of the country."

The Kalachowki unit of the ATS in Mumbai has received a complaint for a violation of the relevant Official Secrets Act sections, and further investigation is ongoing, it continued.
