 The use of illegal substances among Assamese youth has become a big social problem


Digital Desk: The local public apprehended two drug addicts in Pathshala. An abandoned building in Pathshala's West Patti area in Bajali served as a long-standing hub for drug activity.


Today, authorities intervened, apprehending two young men found using drugs inside the building. The individuals identified as Jayanta Barman from Pathshala and Saddam Ali from Rajghat faced vigilante justice from locals before being turned over to the police.

 

Subsequent police inspections of the premises uncovered numerous empty drug containers, indicating prolonged usage. Additionally, the police seized three containers of heroin from the individuals involved in the drug activity. 

 

The use of illegal substances among Assam’s youth has become a big social problem. If this trend continues, civilization will be doomed regarding education, socialization, culture, and economics within the next decade or two.

Assam, which was formerly regarded as a transit route for drugs smuggled across the Indo-Myanmar border, now has over 3 lakh drug users. Surprisingly, the state currently has no strategy or scheme in place to assist addicts with their rehabilitation.
