Digital Desk: A massive consignment of illicit brown sugar was seized and two people were arrested in a joint operation by the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur police and troopers of the Assam Rifles.

According to reports, the seized brown sugar is worth Rs 12 crores on the international market.

Arrests and drug seizures were made during various operations over the last 24 hours.

Acting on intelligence, a joint team of NAB and Imphal police arrested two people who were travelling with illegal drugs in a Bolero car and a Maruti Alto car near Grace Lodge in Dewlahland, Imphal.

The team seized a bag containing six packets of brown sugar weighing 3.033 kg in total, including the weight of the polythene packets, after searching the vehicles.

A case was filed against the two under the NDPS Act.

Paoginthang Touthang (42) of Kangpokpi district and Khaijamang Touthang (33) of Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur were arrested.

The vehicles in which they were travelling were also seized by police, according to the NAB.

In another incident, troopers from the Assam Rifles stationed along the India-Myanmar border recovered 2.982 kg of brown sugar packed in 70 soap cases.
