In order to ensure a calm and organized electoral process, the proclamation requires the closure of these establishments.

Digital Desk: The Kamrup Metropolitan District administration has announced a "DRY DAY" from 4 PM on April 17 till the end of polling on April 19, 2024, in anticipation of the first phase of the Meghalaya general elections, which are scheduled for April 19, 2024. This decision, which is based on a government statement dated March 29, 2024, has an impact on the district's Country Spirit businesses, IMFL Retail "OFF" & "ON" businesses, and Wholesale Warehouses (Bonded Warehouses).

In order to ensure a calm and organized electoral process, the proclamation requires the closure of these establishments. Section 135 (c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as well as the applicable provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules, would apply to any contravention of this order.

On April 10, 2024, the Kamrup Metropolitan District District Commissioner released a document stressing the significance of adhering to the "DRY DAY" directive. For information and appropriate action, the note has been distributed to several authorities, including the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, the Commissioner of Police, and the Commissioner of Excise.

The directive has been notified to and is expected to be followed by all licensees involved, including the Dy. Superintendent of Excise, the O/C cum I.E. of the relevant bottling plant, the Wholesale Warehouse, and the Inspector of Excise. For distribution and suitable action, the District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) has also been notified.
