The Letter demanded an end to the illegal killing and sacrifice of cattle, calves, camels, and other animals.
Digital Desk: The Assam government issued a warning to all district deputy commissioners and superintendents of police on Friday, asking them to prevent any illegal animal sacrifices during Eid.
In a letter to the government of Assam, the joint secretary, KK Sharma, referred to a notification from the Animal Welfare Board of India, a division of the Indian government's ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying.
The Letter demanded an end to the illegal slaughter and sacrifice of animals, including cattle, calves, camels, and others.
The Letter reads, "Concerning the subject cited above, I am directed to enclose herewith a copy of letter No. 9 - 2/2019-20/PCA dated 7" June 2022, along with its enclosures, received from the Secretary, Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India regarding intercepting of illegal killing/sacrifice of Cows/Calves, Camels and other animals and taking action against the offenders for violation of Transport of Animals Rules on the occasion of Bakrid and request you kindly to look into the matter and take necessary action within your jurisdictional area accordingly."
The warning states that there is no overall ban on sacrifices; rather, it only applies to the transportation and illicit sacrifice of cattle and other animals.
It should be mentioned that the Tripura government-imposed regulations regarding animal sacrifice and transportation before Bakrid.
