Digital Desk: A disturbing case of elder abuse has emerged from Ward No. 8 in Rangia town, where a daughter-in-law allegedly subjected her elderly in-laws to inhumane treatment.
The victims, a 90-year-old father-in-law and an 80-year-old mother-in-law, were reportedly evicted from their home on three separate occasions, forcing them to spend nights in distress on the veranda of the local Model Hospital.
Before the physical and emotional abuse, the daughter-in-law also stole various household assets, ranging from gold ornaments to utensils and clothing.
Furthermore, when her husband attempted to intervene and protect his parents, she allegedly assaulted him as well.
In another shocking incident, the father-in-law was allegedly attacked with a brick by her after he attempted to stop her from beating her 18-month-old child.
Seeking justice, the victims have filed a formal complaint with the local police.
According to the complaint, the woman, a former dhaba worker, had initially eloped with their son, Amarjit Das.
While the relationship began harmoniously, the elderly couple alleges that her behaviour soon turned abusive.
They claim she frequently subjected them to physical violence and even denied them food.
Despite Bipath Shah's efforts to sustain the family through his modest betel nut and tobacco shop, the daughter-in-law's physical and mental harassment reportedly intensified.
With no other option left, the elderly couple has turned to the Rangia Police seeking justice to hold her accountable for her actions.
