Digital Desk: A sensational murder has sent shockwaves through the Bijni area of Chirang district after a man allegedly killed his wife during a family celebration.

The incident occurred late last night in the Thuribari area of Mongolian.


The accused, identified as Shukur Basumatary, is alleged to have hacked his wife, Sabita Basumatary, to death with a sharp weapon around midnight.


The tragedy unfolded during a naming ceremony for the couple's granddaughter.


According to reports, both the husband and wife were under the influence of alcohol at the time.


A domestic dispute between the two escalated into violence, during which Shukur Basumatary reportedly lost control and committed the fatal assault.


Bijni Police arrived at the scene promptly, arresting the accused and recovering the body.


The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder is currently underway.


The brutal nature of the crime has left the entire community in a state of deep shock.
