Author Imran shah has been officially conferred with the fourth-highest civilian award of India, the Padma Shri award.
The Padma Shri award was given to him by the Sivasagar District Commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal on behalf of the Government of Assam at his residence in Dhaiali, as he could not accept the award in New Delhi due to poor health.
Padma Shri Imran Shah extended his gratitude towards the Government of Assam and said he is extremely happy to receive the award.
He expressed his gratitude for the recognition given to him by the government for his work and contribution in the field of literature.
Born on 23rd November 1933 in Sivasagar, Assam, Imran Shah was the youngest child of Muhammad Shah and Mariam Nessa.
Inclined towards the literary field since a young age, Shah published his first book of poems ‘Banveshi’ when he was in the ninth standard. The following year, when he was in the tenth standard, his first novel, ‘Sangeetor Hkhipare’ was published. He wrote poetry in Ramdhenu under the pen name Ishan Dutta. His first short story, “Aparicheeta” was published in 1958, in ‘Natun Asomiya’ and edited by Kirtinath Hazarika.
He was elected as the president of Assam Sahitya Sabbha, the state’s literary body located in Barpeta Road for the 2013-2015 session.
