Digital Desk: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) confiscated Rs 53 lakh in cash, 540-gram gold, 1.5 kg gold jewelry, and USD 1900 during raids on the premises of close associates and family members of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in the land-for-job scam. According to an official of the probe agency, the recoveries were made on Friday from the residences of Lalu Prasad's close associates and family members in connection with the scam.
Raids were conducted in 15 locations, including the residence of RJD leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav in Delhi.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently questioned former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad in the case. The ED investigation is based on the FIR filed by the CBI.
The CBI claimed in its case that the accused, in collusion with the then-GM of Central Railways and the CPO of Central Railways, engaged people as substitutes in lieu of land in their names or in the names of close relatives of the Lalu family.
What is the case?
The CBI registered a case against Lalu Prasad Yadav, the then-Union Railway Minister, his wife Rabri Devi, two daughters, and 15 others, including unnamed public employees and private individuals.
"During the period 2004-2009 Yadav had obtained pecuniary advantages in the form of transfer of landed property in the name of his family members in lieu of appointment of substitutes in Group "D" posts-old in different Zones of Railways," the official said.
Reportedly, a number of Patna citizens sold and gifted their land to Yadav's family members and a private business controlled by Yadav and his family.
Despite the fact that no advertisement or public notice was published for such appointment of substitutes in Zonal Railways, appointees who were Patna residents were appointed as Substitutes in various Zonal Railways situated in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hazipur.
"In continuation of this mode of operation, Yadav and his family members acquired approximately 1,05,292 square feet of land and immovable properties in Patna through five sales deeds and two gift deeds, showing the payment made to seller in cash in most of the land transfer," the CBI said.
