In recent ODI cricket matches against the Netherlands, Morgan played two games and was dismissed for a duck in both matches.

Digital Desk: Eoin Morgan, the white ball captain of England, is likely to retire from international cricket very soon. Morgan, who has been battling with his form and fitness, is thinking of hanging up his boots in the upcoming weeks.

As per the reports of The Guardian, Morgan has been considering the decision over the past several days due to his struggles with form and fitness. Morgan, who played a key role in ending England's World Cup trophy drought, averaged 15.75 in his two games this year and 16.67 in T20Is in 2021.

In recent ODI cricket matches against the Netherlands, Morgan played two games and was dismissed for a duck in both matches.

Due to a groin ailment, the 35-year-old was unable to play in the third ODI, and it appears that this was the final straw.

Morgan played a significant part in reorganizing and transforming English white-ball cricket, which has already permeated into Test matches. Morgan began his career playing for his native Ireland. If the Irishman does announce his retirement from international cricket in the coming days, Jos Buttler, who led the reigning champions in the final ODI against the Dutch, will take over as England's next white-ball captain.

Morgan had said that his journey may be coming to an end sooner than anyone had imagined before the ODI match against the Netherlands. Morgan had previously told Sky Sports, "If I don't feel I'm good enough or I'm helping the squad, then I will finish."

Notably, if Morgan does decide to retire, it will mark the end of a brilliant career that included his leadership as captain and his revolutionization of the way contemporary white-ball cricket should be played. Morgan has scored 7701 runs in 248 ODIs and 2458 runs in 115 T20I games. Morgan led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2021 final while also playing in 16 Tests for England.
