Mumbai: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner and IPS (Indian Police Service) officer Param Bir Singh was declared ‘Proclaimed Offender’ by a Mumbai Magistrate Court on Wednesday. The declaration comes after the Goregaon police filed an extortion case against Singh.

Reportedly, the IPS officer was absconding for the past five months after his alleged extortion and fake bomb scare near the residence of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani.

Sources quoted that currently, he has crossed the Nepal border. In June and July, many have seen the IPS officer at his home state Haryana and also in Chandigarh.

The court ordered Param Bir Singh to surrender before the police within 30 days. However, if not surrendered as per rules, the police will initiate the process for the attachment of their properties.

Last month, the court had also issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Param Bir Singh along with the other two co-accused Vinay Singh and Riyaz Bhatti. Moreover, a court in Thane had also issued a non-bailable warrant against Param Bir Singh.

Notably, Singh was removed from the post of Mumbai Police chief in March following his transfer as Director General (Home Guards), where he has not reported since May 4 after taking sick leave.

Earlier, state Home Minister Dilip Walke Patil reported that Param Bir Singh who went on leave from his DG post citing ill health in May, might leave the country. However, after three weeks of the Patil report, the Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that Param Bir Singh could not be traced.
