After a 30-year stand by two zebras, two mandarin ducks, and a female giraffe were finally brought to the zoo...

Digital Desk: The Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden in Guwahati has acquired five new inmates, which is great news for zoo visitors.

Two zebras, two mandarin ducks, and a female giraffe were brought to the zoo after a 30-year wait.

According to accounts, the zebra and mandarin ducks came from Mysore, while the female giraffe came from Patna.

On Monday, Assam Minister for Environment and Forests Chandra Mohan Patowary officially opened the zoo to tourists. Speaking to reporters, the minister also revealed the names of the five animals.

The zebras were named Jay and Jaya, while the giraffe was named Bijaya.

It should be noted that the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, also known as Patna Zoo, reportedly welcomed four new inmates earlier this month as part of an animal exchange initiative between the city zoo and the Assam Zoo.

In exchange for one female giraffe, the Patna Zoo received a pair of hoolock gibbons, one male black panther, and one female rhinoceros. A team of officials and veterinarians from the Assam Zoo visited the Patna Zoo to finalise the animal swap formalities.
