Officials from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati said on Sunday that they will assist the Assam government in inspecting flood-affected areas using drones to enhance relief and rescue efforts.

Officials from the state administration contacted the institute, according to PTI, to ask for assistance in surveying flood-affected areas. Drones will be deployed to assess the situation in villages where flooding has hampered road connectivity.

The work will begin as soon as feasible, according to Parmeshwar Iyer, the dean of IIT Guwahati. He stated that the exercise is critical in assisting the government in developing an action plan to better prepare for the monsoon season.

It will also assist officials in detecting places where people may become stranded and immediate evacuation is necessary, he added.
