Digital Desk: The Congress Party faces a significant setback ahead of the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections in Assam.
Bhupen Kumar Borah, the former President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has announced his departure from the party.
In a formal move, Borah submitted his resignation letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
Borah, a prominent figure within the Congress, played a crucial role in the election committee and was instrumental in seat-sharing negotiations with opposition alliances.
He previously served as the Congress MLA from the Bihpuria constituency from 2006 to 2016 and was also a potential candidate for the Ronganadi constituency.
He was entrusted with the critical task of negotiating seat-sharing for the opposition alliances.
However, dissatisfaction grew when responsibilities were later handed over to senior leader Rakibul Hussain, which reportedly upset Borah.
His discontent with Rakibul Hussain's position in the party further deepened his grievances.
In July 2021, Bhupen Borah was appointed as the President of the APCC.
However, recent developments suggest that he is likely to join the BJP on February 20.
