Former Governor of Assam, Lt. Gen. Ajai Singh PVSM, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 89...

Digital Desk: Former Governor of Assam, Lt. Gen. Ajai Singh PVSM, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 89.

Singh served as the governor of Assam from 2003 to 2008. He also served as the chairman of the North Eastern Council (NEC). Moreover, Singh also served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has also offered his condolences on the demise of veterans of the 1965 and 1971 wars.

Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister's Office tweeted,  " HCM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his deepest condolences on the demise of Lt Gen Ajai Singh PVSM, Former Governor of Assam and veteran of the 1965 & ‘71 wars. HCM recollected Lt. Gen Singh’s illustrious military career and invaluable contribution to the state and nation."

He joined the Indian Army and was enrolled in the Poona Horse. He also witnessed the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars.
