Digital Desk: Days after former Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President Dr. Angkita Dutta accused the organization's national president Srinivas B V of harassment, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) expelled her from the party for six years for "anti-party activities."

"Hon'ble Congress President has expelled Dr. Angkita Dutta, President Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, from the primary membership of the party, for six years, for her anti-party activities, with immediate effect," read a statement issued by the AICC on Saturday.

Calling Srinivas "sexist" and "chauvinistic" She tweeted, "How can a sexist and chauvinistic lead @IYC torture and demean a woman every single time. What happened to @priyankagandhi ladki hoon ladk Shakti hoon."

In a series of tweets, she charged Srinivas of "continually" harassing her and discriminating against her based on her gender for six months. She further accused Rahul Gandhi of failing to take action after being made aware of the situation several months ago.

"Despite my complaints, no enquiry committee has been initiated against @srinivasiyc Is this the safe space @RahulGandhi talks about women. I have kept quiet for months waiting for them to take action against him yet no one seem interested. @srinivasiyc in the guise of his PR is getting away with all kind of wrong doings," she tweeted.

In response, BV Srinivas served her with a legal notice, threatening legal action if she failed to issue a public apology.

Angkita is the daughter of Anjan Dutta, a former Assam minister who was also the head of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. Angkita has previously run for the Amguri constituency in the Assembly elections on a Congress ticket.
