  • Bihar Police apprehended two individuals, including the son of a former state minister, and seized over 100 grams of heroin during a vehicle check in Katihar district

Katihar, Bihar: In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Bihar Police have arrested two individuals, including the son of a former state minister, and seized a substantial quantity of heroin in Katihar district. The arrests were made during a routine vehicle inspection on Wednesday, police confirmed.

Authorities recovered 102.79 grams of heroin, commonly known as smack, from the two alleged smugglers. One of the arrested individuals has been identified as Sunil Kumar, who reportedly stated he is the son of former Bihar Minister and Member of Parliament, Ramji Das Rishi. Kumar is currently employed as a Rozgar Sevak in Forbesganj, officials added.

The second accused, Khushilal Mandal, hails from Purnea district and has a documented history of involvement in narcotics-related crimes, having been previously jailed for similar offenses. The operation unfolded on the Nisundra-Gedabari road under the Phalka police station's jurisdiction.

According to police accounts, officers, including Phalka Station House Officer Prahlad Yadav and Sub-Inspector Amar Deep Singh, were conducting a vehicle inspection drive around 7:50 a.m. when they spotted a yellow motorcycle reportedly without a registration number. Upon noticing the police presence, the riders allegedly attempted to flee the scene. This prompted officers to pursue and subsequently detain both occupants. The contraband was discovered during a search conducted in the presence of officials.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Bihar to dismantle drug trafficking networks and highlights the challenges posed by illegal narcotics within the state.
