Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the former Special DGP of Assam, took over as DGP on January 31 when Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta's term expired.

Digital Desk: Former Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has been appointed as Assam's Chief Information Commissioner.

Following Mahanta's retirement as DGP of Assam in January, the appointment was made.

With his extensive experience in public service, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta's appointment as Chief Information Commissioner is regarded as a significant development. Mahanta's appointment is expected to improve the state's information commission's operations and increase transparency in government dealings.

Mahanta was an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer from the 1988 batch who previously served as Director General of Border. He is well-known for his outstanding service and dedication to the state police force.

Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the former Special DGP of Assam, took charge as the new DGP on January 31, after Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta's term ended.

On his last day of work, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta dedicated a newly built police lavatory. The lavatory was built for lower-level police officers who come to Guwahati from all over Assam for duty or treatment-related reasons.

A farewell parade was also organised for the retiring DGP, who thanked all police personnel who participated.
