Paris: Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu registered a straight-game victory against Danish player Line Christophersen to advance into the third round of the women’s singles event at the French Open tournament on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Sindhu started the game positively as she won the first game 21-19 after a tough battle. Further, Sindhu thrashed Christophersen 21-9 in the second game to secure the match.

On Thursday, Lakshya Sen entered the third round game 21-17, 21-13 after defeating Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in men’s singles.

Meanwhile, Sameer Verma won the first game but lost the second game 12-21 against Indonesia’s Shesar Hiren Rhustavito due to an injury.

The mixed double pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy dominated in the first round; however, they lost in the second and third matches against Indonesian’s Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti 21-15, 17-21, 19-21.
