Prior to this, the Supreme Court on Monday instructed Congressman Randeep Singh Surjewala to file a lawsuit against the Election Law (Amendment) Act, 2021, which permits the linkage of electoral roll data with the Aadhaar ecosystem.

Digital Desk: According to Shrikant Deshpande, the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra, a drive to link voter ID cards with Aadhaar cards would begin on August 1 throughout the state of Maharashtra.

Deshpande added that the process will be carried out with a view to establishing the identity of voters, authenticating entries in the electoral roll, and identifying instances in which the same person's name has been registered more than once in the same constituency or in more than one constituency.

Prior to this, the Supreme Court on Monday instructed Congressman Randeep Singh Surjewala to file a lawsuit against the Election Law (Amendment) Act, 2021, which permits the linkage of electoral roll data with the Aadhaar ecosystem.

Surjewala's attorney was questioned by a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna on why they hadn't first addressed the high court.
