Digital Desk: Amid increasing tomato prices, a farmer couple in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district sold 40,000 boxes of tomatoes and made a whopping Rs 3 crore in 45 days.

A rare variety of tomato plants was planted in the first week of April by Chandramouli, a tomato farmer with a 22-acre field. To increase the yield more quickly, he used cutting-edge strategies including mulching and micro-irrigation. His efforts were successful since by the end of June, he got the tomato yield.

He sold his produce at the nearby Kolar market in the state of Karnataka. When he sold 40,000 boxes in the previous 45 days, the market price of a 15 kg crate of tomatoes was between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500.

Chandramouli expressed his joy at the rising tomato prices by saying, "From the produce I have received so far, I have earned Rs 4 crore. I invested Rs 1 crore in my 22 acres of property overall, including commission and shipping costs, to acquire the yield. Profits, therefore, continue to be 3 crore."

One of the largest tomato marketplaces in India is located in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, and it has been reported that the price of a kilogram of first-grade tomatoes reportedly rose to a staggering Rs 200 on Friday (July 28).

A 25 kg box was being sold for Rs 3,000, or Rs 120 per kg, two weeks ago. The price has since risen to Rs 200 per kg due to the increased demand for tomatoes in the neighbouring states. According to the officials, the price of tomatoes would continue to rise through the end of August.
