As soon as the COVID-19 outbreak was finished, the government fired the cleaners.

Digital Desk:  The Covid cleaning workers protested against the Government's decision to fire them on Thursday in Guwahati.

In 2020, the Health Department may have hired 1,324 cleaners for the Covid Care Center, according to sources.

As soon as the COVID-19 outbreak was finished, the government fired the cleaners.

One of the protestors said, “My daughter perished in the seasonal flood and wasn’t allowed to even view her body as I was dedicated to covid cleaning duties. We were promised permanent positions instead we were terminated.”

Another person said, "The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Health Minister at the time promised us permanent jobs. He claimed that we have proof and won't be fired. Following CM's declaration, the contract was cancelled in four months.

The protest was conducted again in Khanapara following several demonstrations over the previous two years.

The police arrested the protestors from the demonstration venue.

The protesters asked the government for re-employment.
