The White House confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden will hold bilateral talks on the sidelines...

Digital Desk: The White House announced on Saturday that US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit India next week to attend the G20 Summit and will have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the historic conference.

India, as G20 President, will host world leaders for the Summit, which will take place in New Delhi on September 9 and 10.

According to the White House, Biden is going to praise PM Modi for his G20 leadership during the Summit.

The White House issued a statement that read, "On Thursday (September 7), the President will travel to New Delhi, India to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit. On Friday, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

According to the White House, both presidents will also alleviate the economic and social consequences of Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine, as well as strengthen the capacity of multilateral development banks, like the World Bank, to fight poverty more effectively, notably by addressing global concerns.

"While in New Delhi, the President will also commend Prime Minister Modi's G20 leadership and reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as the premier forum of economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026," the White House said.

In terms of the G20, India now holds the rotating presidency of the multinational organisation. 

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US) are all members of the G20.

Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE are among the guest countries.
