Digital Desk: The Brisbane Cricket Stadium, popularly known as 'the Gabba,' is due to be rebuilt, with an estimated 2.7 billion Australian dollars (1.8 billion USD) invested to make it a world-class facility in time for the 2032 Olympics in Queensland, Australia. The Gabba will be the focal point of the multi-nation tournament in nine years.
Queensland State Deputy Premier Steven Miles confirmed the news, adding that the redevelopment will assist in enhancing the capacity of one of the country's most renowned athletic venues.
The venue's present capacity is 42,000, with a capacity upgrade to 50,000 planned. The restoration will commence following the 2025 home Ashes Test and will last until 2030 in an intensive renovation process.
The stadium's affiliated teams, Australia, Brisbane Head, and Brisbane Lions (AFL), will relocate to a new venue for the next roughly four years.
