Guwahati: Every year on October 2, the country celebrates Gandhi Jayanti that marks the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. Over the years, Gandhian principles have impacted the lives of many with many preaching and practicing non-violence and non-cooperation to achieve their goals.

From campaigning for the upliftment of the downtrodden to expanding woman’s rights, what Gandhiji achieved in his life, was truly a miracle. He lived in the hearts of millions of Indians and was respected by all. He laid great emphasis on banishing untouchability, promoting Hindu-Muslim unity, promoting literacy and in the development of a great nation – India.

He moved the people with his sincerity and sacrifice. At his behest, they were ready to lay down their lives for the freedom of the country from foreign powers. His name lives on. Even after all these years, his principles, dedication and mission continue to inspire the country.

Not only India, Mahatma Gandhi is the most frequently entreated Indian personality by world leaders who would often invoke the great freedom fighter for his principles that continues to rule in our hearts.

Internationally, October 2 is observed as the Day of Nonviolence in remembrance of the “Mahatma”.

Even after his death, some of his ideas were taken further by the people. Many inculcated those ideologies of Gandhi in their day-to-day life.

Gandhian ideology emphasizes not on idealism, but on practical idealism. His is philosophy is a souble-edged weapon whose objective is to transform the individual and society simultaneously, in accordance with the principles of truth and non-violence.
