Digital Desk: On Wednesday, the Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Department (PNRD) committed a massive scam involving Rs. 500 crores.

The Gauhati High Court, according to sources, has mandated an investigation into the scam in 10 of the state's districts.

The Assam Public Audit Committee has been asked to look into the fraud.

Amguri Naba Nirman Samiti filed a PIL before the High Court, which was considering the case when the probe was ordered.

An inquiry and suitable action against the con man has also been ordered by the court.

Notably, the fraud occurred in the fiscal years 2009–2010 and 2016–2017.

The Golden Jubilee Self-Employment Scheme and NREGA were both being implemented at the time the scam was committed.
