Guwahati: A new controversy arsing out of a notice released by the Guwahati University Administration has caused a commotion amid the student and teacher fraternity of the concerned university.
A notice released on July 2, 2021 by the GU admin stated that the services of contractual teachers have been stopped from June 30, 2021 onwards as per the orders and powers enforced by the Governor Shri Jagadish Mukhi.
Post the release of this notice, a furore erupted among the students claiming that there have been already a shortage of permanent teaching facility in most colleges and departments of Gauhati University, so contractual teachers were actually guiding the students in their academic endeavors.
Highlighting the plight of the students facing a tough time during this pandemic, the contractual teachers were instead helping the students complete their syllabus.
The students have urged the GUTA (Gauhati University Teachers' Association) and student association to come together and have a wholesome understanding of the entire situation and rethink on the notice.
