Digital Desk: How horrifying can incidents at a government hospital be? The extreme negligence of hospital staff can result in heart-wrenching events, where even the lives of newborns are not safe.


Dr. Achyut Baishya, the current principal of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), may be replaced in the near future. Dr. Ramen Talukdar and Prof. Babul Bezbaruah have been mentioned as potential candidates for the new position.


According to a special report, Dr. Achyut Baishya may face a potential disciplinary transfer.


Bhangagarh police has arrested 11 trolley pullers, including 8 men and 3 women, following overnight questioning. The accused are facing allegations of extorting money under the pretense of assisting patients by pushing trolleys.


In GMCH's NICU, a 4-day-old infant fell from the bed, resulting in its tragic death. The baby became entangled in a cord around its neck, leading to its untimely demise. Another infant was severely injured following the incident.


Due to the extreme carelessness of the GMCH staff, the grieving father has been shattered after losing his child. Despite such a heartbreaking incident, the Principal of GMCH dismissed the incident as a mere accident.


After the horrific incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited GMCH on Monday night. Following his directives, the Bhangagarh police conducted a swift investigation, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals.


As per report, employees of GMCH demand money ranging from 500 to 1000 to pull trolleys, and each employee collects money under the pretext of having tea.


Details about how some employees extort money from the parents of newborns have been highlighted before the media by the father of the deceased newborn.


Meanwhile, the father of the deceased newborn thanked the Chief Minister for his prompt action.
