Digital Desk: The district and sessions court in Assam's Golaghat acquitted undergraduate student Barshashree Buragohain on Thursday of all wrongdoing in relation with the UAPA case against her.

Following her arrest for a social media post considered anti-national, Barshashree became the center of attention. She was consequently booked under the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

She had been imprisoned for over a year and had spent the last two months in jail in Golaghat. Barshashree Buragohain was arrested on May 18, 2022, after she posted a poem in support of the outlawed insurgent group United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent. (ULFA-I).

Barshashree is a second-semester science student of DCB College in Golaghat.

Earlier, Barshashree Buragohain had been called to the district and sessions court in Golaghat on February 28. The court has scheduled the case's next date on March 16.

The controversy emerged after Barshashree Buragohain was arrested in Uriamghat, Golaghat, and charged under the strict UAPA for her post captioned 'Akou Korim Rashtra Droh.'

Barshashree Buragohain received bail on July 21, 2022, with a few conditions imposed by the Gauhati High Court, her counsel said.

Barshashree Buragohain's lawyer. Atul Dihingia claimed that the high court imposed three terms on her release on bail. According to him, Barshashree must appear whenever the investigating officer requests her and must cooperate with the investigation.

Secondly, she was barred from disclosing any details about the case to anyone, and finally, she was barred from repeating the same act, according to Dihingia.

A court had given Barshashree Buragohain permission to take her degree exam on July 16. She had taken the test under strict security arrangements.
