A group of women from Mohmaiki Gaon Panchayat in Assam’s Golaghat district recently staged a protest in front of the Golaghat West Development Block Office, alleging that their names were unjustly removed from the Orunodoi scheme despite their eligibility. The protesters, primarily residents of Sipahi Gaon, expressed deep frustration over what they described as a systematic deprivation of crucial government aid.
The protesting women highlighted a critical disparity in the scheme's implementation. They claimed that many individuals who are financially well-off and do not meet the eligibility criteria are currently receiving benefits under Orunodoi. Conversely, they asserted that numerous deserving women, including several elderly individuals, have been inexplicably left out of the programme. Some of these elderly women further lamented that they have also been deprived of various other government benefits intended for vulnerable sections of society.
Orunodoi, a flagship scheme of the Assam government, aims to provide financial assistance to women heads of households to empower them and alleviate poverty. The scheme has been instrumental in reaching a significant number of beneficiaries across the state. However, these recent allegations from Mohmaiki Gaon Panchayat underscore the importance of stringent verification and transparent processes to ensure that the intended beneficiaries are not overlooked.
The women have called upon authorities to investigate their claims thoroughly and rectify the alleged discrepancies, urging for a fair and equitable distribution of the scheme's benefits to those who truly qualify and are in need.
