Digital Desk: Bringing some ray of hope to the state’s tourism department, the tourist’s inflow to the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has surpassed all prior records, an official report stated.
As per official records, a total of 1,87,323 tourists visited the KNP till the first half of February (2021-22), out of which 1,86,615 were domestic tourists and 617 were international tourists. This results in the increase of the revenue collection to Rs 4,22,49,207 this season.
The KNP authority claimed that the number of tourists and revenue collection is expected to rise as the season is yet to be over, which will last until the last week of April or the first week of May.
Notably, in the previous season (2020-21), 1,82,219 tourists visited KNP, resulting in a revenue collection of Rs 3,54,39,271.
Reportedly, the highest number of international tourists visited KNP in the past ten years was in 2019-20, with 11,595 visitors from other countries.
Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, P Sivakumar, said, “The rise in tourist is due to social media advertising by the KNP officials and good sightings of animals and birds.”
“Habitat improvement, water conservation, consolidation, expansion, and the introduction of additional sites are the contributory factors for the increase of tourists in the national park.” he added.
Further, Sivakumar stated that tiger sightings had increased this season apart from the usual rhino sightings.
