New Delhi: The former chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), PC Mody has been appointed as the new secretary-general of the Upper House.
The former secretary-general PPK Ramacharyulu was withdrawn from the post merely 10 weeks after his appointment. Ramacharyulu was elected as the secretary-general of the Rajya Sabha on September 1. However, no speculation has been provided for his replacement, the sources added.
Mody's approval indicates an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer's unique chance to become Rajya Sabha's secretary-general. The post was traditionally held for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers or senior parliament secretariat officials.

"PC Mody, former chairman of the CBDT, will be the new secretary-general of Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, the appointing authority, signed the appointment order to this effect," stated a senior official.
As per sources, PC Mody is likely to take charges on Friday. Mody is a 1982 IRS officer who was granted three extensions as CBDT chairman since August 2019.
