One poignant case involves the daughter of Majnur Ali, a resident of Narengi Forestgate Shanti Nagar, who was a Class 7 student at a local school

Digital Desk: In the neighbourhood of Shanti Nagar in Narengi, under the jurisdiction of the Nunmati police station, a wave of unrest has been sparked by the troubling presence of drug-addicted youths. This situation has instilled fear among residents, particularly affecting the safety of girls, young women, and women who now feel uneasy about navigating the area due to the menacing behaviour of these drug addicts. Reports have surfaced of attempted assaults, including rape, targeting teenage girls and women travelling alone, leading to a distressing impact on the community.

One poignant case involves the daughter of Majnur Ali, a resident of Narengi Forestgate Shanti Nagar, who was a Class 7 student at a local school. Over the past four years, she has endured harassment from a young man named Moon Ali, who persistently harassed her with unpleasant advances and inappropriate behaviour.

Despite the family's efforts to seek help by filing a complaint at the Nunmati police station, no action was taken, leaving the student feeling vulnerable and eventually forcing her to abandon her education.

On April 22, a group of seven youths, led by Moon Ali and including individuals named Hafizul, Tablet, Farjul, and Latif, escalated the situation by making indecent proposals at the student's residence.

When the student confided in her uncle, Nazrul Ali, seeking assistance, he confronted Moon Ali, only to face physical violence from the group. Subsequently, the family complained to the Nunmati police station, yet concerns remain as no visible action has been taken by the authorities.

Allegations have emerged regarding a group of seven youths disrupting the social fabric of the area by engaging in drug consumption and distribution at the South Shanti Nagar Club. This has prompted calls from the community for the police to intervene decisively and establish the region as a drug-free zone, restoring peace and security to the troubled neighbourhood.
