Digital Desk: In a tragic road accident, a senior police officer lost his life after a speeding car ran over his two-wheeler at Lalmati, Guwahati. The deceased officer, identified as Birinchi Kumar Das, was the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghograpar police station in Nalbari. As per reports, the officer was on a month-long leave at the time of the accident.
The eyewitnesses said that a swift car, bearing registration number AS 01AY 9101, was moving at high speed when the driver lost control of his car. The car knocked down Birinchi Das's two-wheeler after colliding with the road divider.
The accident was so severe that it shattered Das's scooter, and he succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The driver fled the scene after the incident. According to reports, the incident occurred while Das was trying to cross the national highway.
A surge in road accidents has created tensions among the local people. The locals claimed the stretch of road is accident-prone due to poor visibility and careless driving.
