Barah stated that his efforts would be concentrated on preventive policing while speaking to the media for the first time since becoming the CP.

Digital Desk: Criminals and city police engaged in a game known as "Chor-Police," which grew a little more complicated as investigations into these incidents revealed that the vehicles used to conduct the crimes had "fake" number plates.

Chain and mobile snatching, vehicle theft, and even the brandishing of firearms have been sharply increasing in the city.

Diganta Barah, the Guwahati police commissioner, stated on Wednesday "the bikes used in similar stealing incidents were fake. We are making every effort to stop these instances, so the locals shouldn't be worried."

The CP reported that during the previous four to five days, at least five chain-snatching incidents had been reported. In connection with these instances, the police have also detained four people, and there have also been some recoveries, he added.

Similar to this, during the past several days, the city has also received reports of at least 17 vehicle theft cases, of which about seven vehicles have been found.

"Firearms have been observed to be displayed by the criminals in some of the incidents. It's a serious situation, and the city police have already deployed all of their tools to investigate this illegal gun-running ring in the city thoroughly. Our efforts will shortly bear fruit," the CP stated.

Barah stated that his efforts would be concentrated on preventive policing while speaking to the media for the first time since becoming the CP.

According to Barah, "There are some incidents, such as family violence, which police cannot stop, but our efforts will be to convict the perpetrators in such crimes."

Amid the city's increasing violence, Barah was appointed as the new CP last week.
