A VIP road in Guwhati has been renamed as Abhijit Path. The road got renamed after Abhijit Nath, one of the Karbi Anglong mob lynching victims.

Both Abhijit Nath and his friend Nilotpal Das were brutally killed in Karbi Anglong district two years back. However, the grief remains fresh in the hearts of people and families.

On August 2021, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) issued a notice asking opinions from the residents of the Chachal Path and Bylane No.1, Chachal, along the VIP Road (Mahapurush Madhab Dev Path), Six Mile. The opinions were asked regarding the renaming of the lane as 'Abhijeet Path.'

GMC has asked residents to submit their opinions within 15days. The responses were submitted at the GMC office in Panbazar.

Abhijit's father stated, "People have kept my son alive even after so many years. My son is still alive and has thanked everyone who remembers him and his friend Nilotpal."

On June 8, 2018, the brutal incident occurred in Panjuri Kachari village of the tribal Karbi Anglong district. The incident happened when the duo was waylaid by more than 200 members who suspected them of being Xopa Dhora (child lifters).

Many years have passed, and the family still awaits justice from the court. When asked, Abhijit's father said that the pandemic has slowed down the process. However, since the situation is getting well, they hope that justice prevails soon.
