The vehicle bore markings reading Govt. Of Assam adding a surprising facet to the current probe...

Digital Desk: The Basistha Police in Guwahati recently seized nine vehicles that were found to be illegally equipped with warning signs and sirens. Among the well-known people whose cars were taken were contractors, businessmen, and CID officials.

According to sources, the owner's sons, who are currently enrolled at renowned Guwahati colleges and universities, were operating all nine cars. This development comes in the wake of the recent confession by Arin Kataki, a 20-year-old BA/LLB student, apprehended in connection with a hit-and-run incident.
Based on Kataki's confession, the police were able to find a black Scorpio that was hidden and had the license plate AS01FF 05555 at a garage at Six Mile. Additionally, the vehicle bore markings reading "Govt. Of Assam," adding a surprising facet to the current probe.

Following the unfortunate death of 54-year-old Narabahadur Thapa in a hit-and-run near Nalapara on NH-27, the Basistha Police filed a complaint (No. 62/24) under sections 279/304(A) IPC. According to investigations, the suspect's car confused law enforcement since it had sirens and red/green lights, just like a police car.

The vehicle led to the arrest of Arin Kataki, who now faces legal consequences for his involvement in the case. Additionally, it was revealed that Kataki's father drives a private vehicle bearing the state government's designation of "Govt of Assam." Kataki is an Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF).

Meanwhile, the case highlights the improper use of signaling devices and calls into question the involvement of influential people in these activities.
