Digital Desk: In the recent update of Swachh Survekshan 2023, Guwahati has been ranked as one of the least clean cities in India. Securing 402 out of 446 Urban Local Bodies in the main category (above one lakh) in Swachh Survekshan 2023. The results were declared on Thursday by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs.

According to the report, the city managed to address only 46% of the daily household waste generated with more than 80% of residential and market areas in Guwahati and only 3% of total waste segregated at the source. 

As  Swachh Survekshan 2023 detailed the city’s performance in various categories, Guwahati received only 15 percent marks in the public toilet category, zero percent score each in waste segregation versus processing and remediation dumpsites, and 17 percent score each in the cleanliness of residential areas and cleanliness of the market areas. The city managed to score only 2014.40 marks out of a total of 9500. 

It may be mentioned that Guwahati ranked 342 in 2022 and 312 in 2021.
