Digital Desk: The Guwahati passenger ropeway will be out of service for ten days due to a mandatory maintenance and rescue mock drill for an annual maintenance check according to an announcement by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority(GMDA). The shutdown will commence from 15 to 24 October. The services will reopen from 25th October.

In an official notification, the GMDA Chief Executive officer said "The operation of the Guwahati Passenger Ropeway shall remain closed starting from 15-10-2024 to 24-10-2024 (i.e 10 days) for annual maintenance works and rescue mock drill. The ropeway normal operations will be resumed from 25-10-2024." This maintenance is necessary to guarantee the safety and functionality of the ropeway which has been an increasingly popular mode of transportation for locals and visitors, providing some spectacular cityscape views.

Passengers have been advised by the authority of GDMA to adjust travel plans and use a different mode of transport during this shutdown. The decision is part of a wider effort on the part of the authority, which also shows responsibility regarding maintaining strong safety standards for the public and improving ropeway service quality overall.
