Digital Desk: The husband of a woman found hanging at their home near the Bora Service area in Lachit Nagar has been arrested by Guwahati city police.
The husband, Nilim Medhi, was arrested by police after the woman's family claimed that their daughter was murdered for dowry. They said that the woman was compelled to take such drastic measures due to her in-laws' constant pestering regarding dowry demands.
Medhi was detained on Thursday morning and will appear in court soon.
The event occurred on Tuesday night (September 12), when the woman, Bhagyalaxmi Duara, was discovered hanging inside her room. Bhagyalaxmi, according to the information collected, locked herself in her room around 9 p.m. and never came out.
Her husband stated that after several hours, he had to break open the door and discover Bhagyalaxmi's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan.
He stated that everything appeared normal and that it had come as a surprise to him and his family. He further claimed that there was no feud between the two and that she had not been tortured or harassed.
Bhagyalaxmi, her husband, and her mother-in-law were discovered to have been living in a rented flat on Saniram Bora Road for the past six months.
Paltanbazar police arrived later and recovered the body for post-mortem examination.
