Digital Desk: It is one of the strongest and best relationships we can have for ourselves, to give us support, laugh, and loyalty under hard circumstances. In India, Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August, which falls on August 3rd this year, while the International Day of Friendship is observed globally on 30th July

On this special day, people across the country exchange warm wishes, messages and tokens of love to celebrate their friends who have supported them in every circumstance. It could be your childhood friend, college friend, etc. or it could be the one you met by chance; Friendship Day is so beautiful because it reminds you to value such beautiful friendships.

In a world increasingly divided by conflict, inequality, and fear, friendship offers a quiet but radical resistance. It does not need elaboration, and all ceremonies, it starts with joint laugh, open heart and just with the decision of letting unity converge instead of division.

In 2011 the International Day of Friendship was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, which realized the potential that the friendship among people, cultures and countries may have in constructing bridges and peace. The resolution in particular urges the youth to be part and parcel in community building activities whereby diversity and culture is embraced and mutual respect fulfilled.

This year, as we are celebrate  friendship day, we should keep in mind that true peace is not created with just treaties, or policies, but it is created when we do the acts of kindness, trust, and empathy in everyday life. The UN calls on communities and organizations all over the world to organize events, which facilitate dialogue, solidarity and reconciliation.

Let today be more than a celebration — let it be a call to nurture friendships that unite, heal, and inspire a better, more connected world. Happy Friendship Day 2025!
