Honouring the stalwarts of education, the indispensable part of our academic upbringing, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' Day with full fervour, honouring our mentors, our teachers, our gurus, that primarily marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-president and the second President of India. He was a teacher, philosopher, Bharat Ratna recipient, and the second President of independent India (1962-67).

Since September 5, 1962, the day is celebrated to honor Dr. Radhakrishnan’s approach towards Indian students and education. He was an esteemed academic who had a master’s degree in philosophy, also wrote a book called ‘The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore’. He served as a renowned teacher at Calcutta University and Chennai’s Presidency College. Then, Dr. Radhakrishnan became the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra Pradesh University and held this position for five years. He taught Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford University for 16 years. Later, he became the President of India in 1962, and since then his birthday is celebrated as Teacher’s Day.

Significance of the Day

Teachers help human beings to become good, and ideal citizens of the country. They shape our future, motivate us at every phase of our life, and help students to grow and fulfill their dreams. The significance of Teacher's Day is to acknowledge hardships, challenges, and notable roles that teachers play in our lives. This day is celebrated, in every school and college across the country.

Though we say that the future of a country lies in the hands of its children, but it won’t be possible if there won’t be good teachers to show the right path to the students. A teacher’s job is full of hardships, and therefore, we must honor them with respect and show gratitude for their efforts.

However, this year, it is likely that the day may get celebrated in many regions through online mode due to COVID 19 pandemic. This year 44 teachers across the country will be felicitated by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Let's dedicate this day to our teachers who made us what we are today. Happy Teacher's day, 2021 to all the teachers who strive to make a change in society with their hard work.
